MiniMax Code
MiniMax · · Coding harness
MiniMax renamed its desktop agent app to MiniMax Code and added a `minimax` command-line shortcut, turning a general-purpose assistant into a coding harness. Its agent loop was rebuilt on the open-source OpenCode and Pi Agent projects and trained jointly with the MiniMax M3 model released three days later.
Why it matters
The clearest case of the harness being treated as part of the model rather than a wrapper around it: MiniMax states that Code was designed for M3 and trained together with M3. It is also the batch's one proprietary Chinese harness — a desktop download, not a repository — built on other people's open harnesses.
This is LLM World's historical reading, not a claim by MiniMax. The facts above and the sources below are what it rests on.

MiniMax's own product changelog dates release v3.0.33 to 2026-05-29 and states there that the desktop client was officially renamed MiniMax Code. READ THE SCOPE CAREFULLY: this dates the name, not the product's origin — the same changelog carries earlier entries for 'MiniMax Agent 桌面端' (MiniMax Agent desktop), so the app existed before under another name and this record does not claim otherwise. The alternative date is 2026-06-01, when MiniMax's M3 blog post says '随着 M3 的发布,MiniMax Code 也迎来更新' ('with the release of M3, MiniMax Code has also been updated') and describes the harness as built on OpenCode and Pi Agent — but that post describes an update to something already named, which is why the rename date is used here. MiniMax Code 2.0 followed on 2026-07-16.
